MAYBOT HAS A MELTDOWN

Frazzled Tory jets to G20 but can’t escape Brexit

TETCHY Theresa May revealed the strain of her Brexit woes by blowing a fuse and letting rip at reporters during grillings.

The Prime Minister’s outbursts came amid a gruelling schedule as she tries to get her deal through the Commons in the December 11 vote.

She stubbornly refused to give up hope of MPs backing her yesterday.

And when told that the maths was simply against her, she snapped: “We haven’t had the vote yet.”

Her meltdown came as European Council president Donald Tusk suggested Brexit could be scrapped if MPs sink her deal.

Speaking at the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he said: “If this deal is rejected we are left with an alternative – no deal or no Brexit at all. I want to reassure you that the EU is prepared for every scenario.”

While flying to Argentina for the G20, May had another glitch when asked if she would quit in the event of a Commons defeat.

She spat back: “Look, I have been asked these sorts of questions before.

“I am tempted to think the price of coming on one of these trips is asking questions about my future, because they come up every time – and my answers aren’t going to change.”

Remainer MPs, led by Labour’s Hilary Benn, have tabled an amendment to the deal that would rule out a no-deal scenario.

Benn said: “It opposes the deal, rejects a no-deal and would enable the House to express its view about what should happen if the PM’s deal is defeated.”

And Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell asked for a meeting with civil servants to prepare a “smooth transfer of power” for Labour if May’s regime collapses and a snap election is called.

The PM has abandoned attempts to remain in the EU’s Galileo satellite system – with no guarantees of getting back any of th e £1.2billion we have pumped in.

She earmarked £92million for a British system in August but last night confirmed that we will go it alone.

Labour MP Ben Bradshaw, of the People’s Vote campaign said May was pushing for a deal that was “clearly worse” than the country’s present arrangements – and called for another referendum. He said: “Anyone still pretending there is a ‘better’ Brexit available, or that could meet the contradictory promises made by Brexit campaigners, is kidding themselves. “Given that the Government’s deal is so clearly worse deal than the deal we’ve already got in the EU, and that it resolves none of the big questions of Brexit, it is only right the final decision should now be handed back to the public.”
