I’VE NOT HAD MY PHIL, YET

May defiant as she’s savaged on screen by Schofield

THERESA May yesterday denied she is “knackered” by the Brexit process as she ploughed on with attempts to sell the deal to the public.

The Prime Minister went on ITV’s This Morning to talk about the benefits of her deal, which looks doomed to be voted down in the Commons in a week’s time.

Asked b y host Phillip Schofield if she was “knackered” by her marathon schedule, May said: “It’s a tough time. It’s a difficult time – an awful lot of work has had to go into this.”

In the last week, May has been to Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England before jetting to Argentina last weekend for a G20 summit.

She has been answering questions from MPs at the Commons despatch box for 10 hours in the last two weeks and was back there yesterday for 90 minutes before a scheduled meeting with Nicola Sturgeon.

May told Schofield: “The key thing is to keep focused on what the end point is – getting a good deal through for the UK and delivering on what people voted for. I’m focusing on getting that vote over the line. This is a important moment in our history.”

When asked if she would quit if she lost the vote, she said: “I will still have a job in two weeks’ time.

“My job is making sure we do what the public asked us to – leave the EU but in a way that’s good for them.”

May told Tory MPs to “hold their nerve” and back her Brexit deal. She said: “This is about delivering what people voted for when they voted in that referendum to leave the EU. That’s important for us as politicians to remember.”

Last night, Commons’ Speaker John Bercow told MPs he believes there is an “arguable case that a contempt has been committed” by the Government over Brexit legal advice.
