EAMONN TO THAT

Want to keep flying high at the top of the table thanks to Brophy, Stewart and Boydy?

EAMONN BROPHY reckons his prolific partnership with Greg Stewart and the nous of Kris Boyd can keep Kilmarnock firing at the top of the table.

The striker is back from injury and buzzing as Steve Clarke’s men sit two points behind leaders Rangers.

Brophy and Stewart have grabbed a dozen goals between them since the start of September.

And the former Hamilton forward said: “Greg put a goal on a plate for me against Hibs and he’s a brilliant player to work alongside. I know if I make the runs he’s going to find me with the passes.

“Greg’s been really important for us. He’s been outstanding since he signed.

“I feel we have a good partnership going. Since the first game he played against Aberdeen, we’ve clicked. That’s 12 goals between us since then. Hopefully we can both keep doing well for the team.

“But Kris has also been massive for me. He gives me tips constantly.

“There’s no better person to learn from than Kris. I train with him every day and I’m lucky to have someone like that here to work with. I’m still young and learning the game and there is no one better to learn from.”

Brophy is now gearing up for Livingston tomorrow night having returned with a bang.

Out for a month through injury, the attacker scored twice in last weekend’s win over Hibs and took huge confidence from Clarke’s decision to thrust him straight back into the firing line. Brophy said: “It’s been a frustrating time. I just wanted to get back out there and playing with the boys again.

“Obviously we have a strong squad here. There are boys just waiting to take their chance when it comes around.

“We got good results against Hearts away and St Johnstone away during the time I was out and were unlucky to lose to Aberdeen.

“During that time the other players did well and I maybe wasn’t expecting to go back into the team straight away because of that.

“You can sometimes get a sense of it during the week that you might be playing but I didn’t think I’d go straight into the starting line-up.

“But it shows the gaffer is putting his trust in me. That made it nice to get the two goals to repay that trust.

“When Kris isn’t playing I’m on penalty duties and it’s always good to get the opportunity to take one.

“But it was more about winning the game to set us up for Wednesday against Livingston.

“There are a lot of matches coming up and I was suffering a bit of fatigue in the Hibs game as I hadn’t trained until the middle of the week beforehand having been out for four weeks.

“But I’ll be fine for the game against Livingston.”

Killie are flying but still managing to keep their feet on the ground as Brophy added: “Last season we did well and finished fifth but listen, there are no targets put on to this season. Every game we face is difficult in the Premiership and we never get carried away.

“All we do is focus on them one by one, try to gather the points and see where it takes us. Livingston are next up and we’ll need to be at our best to win.”
