EMOTIONAL George W Bush tenderly pats his dad’s casket and breaks down during eulogy they will say that George H W Bush was a great president of the United States.”

He ended on an emotional note, his wife Laura, 72, wiping away tears as he said: “Your decency, sincerity and kind soul will stay with us forever.

“So through our tears, let us know the blessings of knowing and loving you, a great and noble man.”

Bishop Michael Curry, who spoke at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, led the congregation in prayer.

Irish tenor Ronan Tynan, who sang for Bush on his deathbed, performed Last Full Measure of Devotion. Bush, president from 1989 to 1993, was hailed by Jon Meacham as “America’s last great soldier-statesman, a 20th Century founding father”. The historian made George W Bush laugh, recalling how Bush snr, in a frenzy of campaigning, had once grasped the hand of a mannequin by mistake. “He said, ‘Never know. Gotta ask’,” said Meacham. Ex-senator Alan Simpson, said his friend’s epitaph needed one letter. “The letter ‘L’ for loyalty. It coursed through his blood. Loyalty to his country, loyalty Laura Bush to his family, loyalty to his friends,” he said. Bush will be interred alongside wife Barbara, who died aged 92 in April, in Texas today. RYANAIR could be taken to court for refusing to compensate thousands of passengers disrupted by strikes.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled this summer when pilots and cabin crews walked out.

Ryanair said the strikes were “extraordinary circumstances” and so exempt from any claims.

But the Civil Aviation BY DAVID CRAIK Authority yesterday called on the airline to cough up or face legal action.

The regulators could not say how many claims were involved but 22,159 complaints were made against Ryanair in the first nine months of the year.

There were about 650 flight cancellations this summer and the bill could reach more than £7million. Rory Boland, editor of magazine Which? Travel, said: “The airline must do the right thing by their customers and pay the compensation owed.”

But Ryanair said courts in Germany, Spain and Italy had ruled strikes were an “exceptional circumstance”.

They added: “We expect the UK CAA and courts will follow this precedent.”
