Cops win Barrymore compo fight
BY CATHY GORDON MICHAEL Barrymore will only receive “nominal damages” over his wrongful arrest, judges have ruled.
The entertainer values his claim against Essex Police at more than £2.4million.
But the force argued Barrymore, 66, should only get a “nominal” payout.
At the Appeal Court in London, they successfully challenged a High Court ruling made in August last year that he was entitled to more than that.
Barrymore launched a damages action after he was arrested and detained in June 2007 on suspicion of the rape and murder of Stuart Lubbock.
The 31-year-old’s body was found in the swimming pool at Barrymore’s home in Roydon, Essex, six years earlier.
Barrymore based his compensation claim on the earnings he said he lost as a result of his wrongful arrest.
Essex Police admitted the arrest was unlawful as the arresting officer did not have reasonable grounds to suspect Barrymore was guilty of any offence.
The entertainer was never charged with any offence.
In 2002, an open verdict was recorded at the inquest into Lubbock’s death. JENNIFER Lopez is one cool customer as she channels her snow queen look in New York.
The 49-year-old star wore a furry scarf and long, flowing coat over a white jumpsuit as she turned up to film a chat show in the Big Apple.
We get your drift, J-Snow.
