O’Carroll reveals new movie based on show’s Buster and Dermot is in works

BY MARK JEFFERIES reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk BRENDAN O’Carroll has revealed he and son Danny are writing a movie based on the characters Buster and Dermot from Mrs Brown’s Boys.

Actors Paddy Houlihan and Danny O’Carroll play the pair who often get into scrapes while wearing fancy dress or outfits advertising products.

Brendan said: “I think it’s going to be really, really successful.

“What is going to make it successful is that chemistry they have. There is something that they have that is very rare. You saw it in Morecambe and Wise.”

The original Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie took £23million in 2014.

This year’s Christmas Day special centres around a “Maggie” machine, a mocked-up version of Amazon’s Alexa in-house device.

Brendan, 63, said: “I had an Alexa for about a week and thought, ‘There is something wrong if I am arguing with a f ***** g machine. So I got rid of it.”

He revealed he refused to tone down the show’s swearing when asked to by the BBC in early meetings, so that it could air before the watershed. They said they wanted to make him “a headline star”.

But Brendan said he told the then Beeb TV controller Danny Cohen: “I don’t want to be a big star. I never wanted to be a big star. I never did.”

He added in the meeting: “The show is the show. I don’t care when you put it on, we are not changing the show.”

●Mrs Brown’s Boys is on Christmas Day, BBC One, 10.15pm. A second episode is on New Year’s Day, 10pm.
