Valium raid was biggest drugs bust in country’s history

At the High Court in Glasgow, judge Lord Burns acknowledg­ed the huge impact of the gang in the “flood” of drugs into Scotland.

Lord Burns said: “This drug was being produced on an industrial scale. You must have been one of the major sources of what was described as a flood of this drug into Scotland.

“You were aware it would be illegal to produce this drug which has potential to cause serious harm to people who abuse it.”

Police who raided the Paisley drugs factory found 1,676,094 Etizolam pills, with a maximum street value of £1.676milion, although they could be bought for just 50p in the city, as well as Glasgow, Dundee and Ayrshire.

Conway, who boasted to friends of being offered £11,000 for a few days work, was given three years for his lesser role.

Money man McGaw, who runs hair transplant franchises in Scotland and Ireland, was given five years and garage boss Reid and Ingle both received five-and-a half years each.

Ingle and Conway were both caught in March 2017, covered in blue dust and feeding drug ingredient­s into the rotary pill press, which cost £20,000.
