Craigan quits Well as Robbo hit with five-game SFA ban
BY EUAN McLEAN STEPHEN CRAIGAN has left his post as Motherwell reserve team boss after three and a half years.
The former Fir Park defender, who also works as a pundit for BT Sport, believes the time is right for him to move on.
Craigan said: “I think after a certain amount of time young players need a new voice and a new leader to try and push them on.”
Well chief executive Alan Burrows said: “Following Stephen’s departure, and feedback from him, coaching staff and others in the academy, the club intends to complete a review of the development pathway for 18 to 21-year-olds at the club, prior to appointing a replacement.”
Craigan’s departure came on the same day Stephen Robinson was hit with a five-game ban by the SFA after admitting a misconduct charge.
The Well manager was sent to the stand by referee Craig Thomson after he clashed with Rangers’ coaching staff and the fourth official during a 7-1 defeat.
Robinson was served with a notice of complaint and accepted the charge during a disciplinary meeting at Hampden – with a three-match ban kicking in immediately with a further two games suspended.
The Irishman had been left incensed with Carl McHugh’s first booking for a tackle on Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox before being sent off shortly after.
