Kaiam workers truly Scrooged

-

THE threat of losing your job or home is devastating at any time of the year.

But there is something particularly cruel in the way workers at Kaiam are being treated.

They’re being told to phone in on Christmas Eve just to see if they still have a job to go to – and the sickening blow has sent shockwaves around more than 350 employees at the Livingston site.

Christmas plans are in jeopardy, families don’t know if wages will be paid.

Boss Bardia Pezeshki flew in during the week but escaped to the US before the bad news was delivered.

It’s not just these workers facing a deeply unsettling Christmas.

In Glasgow, vulnerable asylum seekers were left reeling at the threat of eviction.

Glasgow City Council blew the whistle on proposals which would have seen people turfed out on Christmas Day – people from war-torn countries.

Private firm Serco run the accommodation but the UK Government’s Home Office set up the system.

Between them, hundreds of people have been left unsettled in legal limbo.

Many of the asylum seekers fear they will lose the roof over their head at any time.

Workers at Kaiam, meanwhile, made their feelings known. And they are furious.

What a contrast with the glib corporate nonsense on Kaiam’s website.

Without irony, the company promises to treat everyone with respect and integrity.
