Cup final Dons idiot jailed for 140 days
A YOB who invaded the pitch at the League Cup final and assaulted police will spend Christmas behind bars after he was jailed for 140 days yesterday.
Aberdeen fan Gavin Elphinstone, 25, left the stands at Hampden, got past stewards and made his way on to the field – where he intercepted a pass from Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain.
Elphinstone was tackled by stewards and forced to the ground beside the pitch but turned violent BY ASHLIE McANALLY and attacked two police officers.
Five officers had to lift him into the air, face-down, and carry him off to custody.
Elphinstone, of Aberdeen, appeared from custody earlier this month at Glasgow Sheriff Court, where he was represented by solicitor Lee Doyle.
He admitted breaching the peace at the final on December 2 by conducting himself in a disorderly manner, entering the field of play and waving a scarf above his head, running towards a player and kicking the ball.
He also pled guilty to assaulting two police officers by pushing and kicking one on the body and kicking another on the body.
Sentence was deferred until yesterday. And when Elphinstone returned to the dock, Sheriff Ian Fleming jailed him for 140 days and handed him an eight-month football banning order.
Celtic won the game 1-0.
