Hendo’s flying high after Gatwick grounding
JOHN HENDERSON shrugged off drone drama to surge into round three at Ally Pally.
The Highland hero produced a superb World Championship fightback to dump German Gabriel Clemens in a decider.
The 45-year-old was flying after his 3-2 win but his bid was almost grounded before he could get going. Henderson suffered severe disruption getting to London after the closure of Gatwick Airport.
He said: “The drones gave us a massive problem. We were going to be diverted to Stansted then Heathrow.
“Thankfully it didn’t upset things too much and I wouldn’t have used that as any excuse. It wasn’t very good but hopefully it’s a lot better going back home to Scotland then back here next week. I get to enjoy Christmas properly now and will go back down feeling great about myself.”
Henderson had to battle back from 2-1 down with Englishman Michael Smith up next.
The Scot said: “I’m going to have to up my average by at least 10 points. I’ll prepare. I’m looking forward to the game, I’ll definitely give him a good game.
“I believe I can beat him and hopefully he’s thinking more of his wedding in January than playing me.”
Two ton-plus finishes saw England’s Keegan Brown send Dutchman Jelle Klaasen out, setting up a third-round clash with James Wade.
