Edinburgh ace Gilchrist: We’re on road to something special
SCOTLAND lock Grant Gilchrist has sealed a fresh deal with Edinburgh.
Line-out specialist Gilchrist, 28, will remain a Gunner until 2022 at the earliest.
And he said: “I love the club and the direction we are going.
“If we keep developing and working hard we can do something really special in the next few years , I’m very excited to be part of that future.”
Gunners boss Richard Cockerill said: “Gilco’s shown tremendous leadership ability both on and off the pitch.
“He’s a quality international player and we’re delighted he has chosen to be a part of what we’re building here.”
Glasgow also received a pre-1872 Cup contract boost with the news Fijian magician Niko Matawalu has signed a new contract to stay at Scotstoun until 2021.
The Fiji scrum-half and wing, 29, is in his second spell with Warriors having also played for Bath and Exeter.
Glasgow boss Dave Rennie “He’s been fantastic. He’s always got the ability to score from anywhere. He’s been really accurate, really clear in his role this year and because of that he’s performed at a high level.”
Rennie hopes Matawalu, who has scored 38 tries in 103 Glasgow appearances, will be influential at Murrayfield today.
He added: “He’s constantly in discussions around our starting group. A lot of our loose forwards do a bit of tackling practice on him and he embarrasses those guys with his footwork. He’s a real handful.”
Meanwhile, Glasgow bosses have confirmed George Turner – carried off during last week’s win against Lyon – will be sidelined for almost three months after ankle surgery.
