FIANCE THAT.. BRA TYCOON SAYS YES
Michelle’s uplifting messages
LADY Michelle Mone has announced her engagement to billionaire entrepreneur Doug Barrowman.
The happy tidings for the 47-year-old Ultimo lingerie founder marks a peak in her rollercoaster life.
After being elevated to the House of Lords by former Tory PM David Cameron in 2015, she has been slammed for her rare appearances in the House.
Her business moves have also brought criticism, particularly the launch of a cryptocurrency with her partner.
Michelle announced her engagement on Instagram and Twitter, posting a photo of the pair together, coupled with ring emoji across her photo and the caption: “I said yes.” The couple have been dating for two and a half years and she has spoken of finding “the one” in the past.
Her previous marriage to business partner Michael Mone, dad to her three children, ended in disaster.
Michael and Michelle founded lingerie brand Ultimo together, launching it 1999.
Following the breakdown of their marriage, Michelle briefly left Ultimo before returning and buying out her former partner. She resigned from the brand in 2015.
She now spends most of her time with Scottish businessman Doug, 54, in his property on the Isle of Wight – moving in with him early last year.
She is selling her home in Glasgow for £1.4million, just short of the sum paid by her and Michael after they wed.
Michelle has previously said she believes their devotion to family life and shared passion for business is ultimately what makes her and Doug work so well as a couple.
She said: “He makes me laugh, I make him laugh – I don’t know how, but I do – and we just have so much fun together.”
The couple launched their own “British Bitcoin” earlier this year, seeking to raise up to £60million from investors for cryptocurrency Equi. But it managed just £5.5million, according to the Financial Times.
Michelle pledged to play “a full and active” role in the Lords but was dubbed “a disgrace” after only attending 12 per cent of Lords sittings.
