Budget airline worst for bad in-flight behaviour

-

BY RUKI SAYID RYANAIR are the worst airline for drunk, loutish passenger behaviour, a survey shows.

Which? found 17 per cent of the budget flier’s customers had been blighted by travellers from hell.

Thomas Cook were second worst with 15 per cent, followed by TUI (14 per cent) and easyJet (13 per cent).

Overall, one in 10 people suffered disrupted flights.

One flier told of a drinkcrazed passenger wrestled to the floor by an off-duty police officer.

And another was shocked when a stag party tried to torch a seat on a Newcastle to Spain flight.

Civil Aviation Authority figures show an average 186 incidents a year up to 2016. But last year the number soared 124 per cent to 417, raising concerns over how airlines deal with problem passengers, Which? said. An easyJet whistleblower told the watchdog the airline rewarded staff who sold the most booze.

EasyJet said their staff refuse to serve anyone who is drunk but confirmed they run on-board sales incentives for all products. Which? also criticised Ryanair for backing a ban on booze sales before 10am at airports and a two-drink limit per passenger but then tweeting an image of a man on a beach with an empty bottle captioned “This could be you.”

Which? Travel editorRory Boland said: “People should be able to take a flight without having to worry about their trip being disrupted by rowdy passengers who have had one too many.”

The penalty for risking the safety of an aircraft is five years in jail and being drunk on a plane can result in an £80,000 fine if the plane is diverted
