I DON’T KERR FOR UTD PALS’ TAUNTS

- BY SCOTT BURNS

DUNDEE v ST JOHNSTONE TODAY, DENS PARK, 3PM

CAMMY KERR is determined to get Dundee off the foot of the Premiership – so he can silence his Dundee United-supporting pals.

The struggling Dark Blues have spent most of the season on or around the bottom of the table.

Kerr knows it has been a season of pain for the Dens Park outfit and the only people who have been revelling in their struggles have been city rivals United.

He said: “I’ve got best pals who are United fans. We’re in group chats together – and they’re all dying for us to lose every week.

“I’ll bide my time. I don’t give them anything back until it’s the right time. It’s always friendly.

“I have pals from school that I have known for years and they are massive United fans. But all of them want me to do well.”

United remain in the Championship and with Dundee now struggling it has given rival fans a chance for payback.

Kerr said: “It has been difficult at times. It’s never nice when the team is struggling at the bottom and you are stuck right in the middle of it.

“Half of the city will be buzzing for you. The other half will be rooting for you to do badly. It’s one of these things you have to deal with, being the local lad.

“You have to be thick-skinned when things aren’t going well. The rivalry is huge. But it doesn’t cross the line. It’s one of the best because of that.”

Dundee could climb off the bottom today if they beat St Johnstone and Kilmarnock see off St Mirren at Rugby Park.

Psychologically everyone at Dens knows how big that would be although gaffer Jim McIntyre has always said he wants at least to stay in touch.

Kerr said: “It would be massive. The St Johnstone game is huge. I’d like to think there has been a change for us at home.

“It was hard to play here for a while – there’s no getting away from that. The fans kept turning up and supporting us so it’s important we repay them.

“We all want a victory to lift our spirits going into the break.”

Saints have already beaten Dundee this season, during Neil McCann’s reign, thanks to a Tony Watt goal in August.

That was at a time when no love was lost between ex-boss McCann and Saints’ Tommy Wright after a touchline bust-up but Kerr insists it had no impact on the players.

He added: “The old manager was very passionate about what he said and I will let them fight that out themselves.

“None of the players on either side was bothered about it.”
