DAVIS SET TO SEAL RANGERS RETURN
STEVIE G WANTS STEVIE D
STEVEN DAVIS hopes to be back in Glasgow as early as this week to complete a return to Rangers.
We understand boss Steven Gerrard remains desperate to bring Davis to Ibrox during the January sales and the Northern Ireland skipper’s also keen on a comeback. With Southampton
prepared to let the veteran move on for free after six years of service on the south coast, Rangers must now attempt to put a financial package together for a player who has six months still to run on a contract worth £60k a week.
Sources close to the player – who celebrates his 34th birthday on New Year’s Day – insist the perfect present will be a two-year Rangers contract.
One said: “Steven is well aware of the Rangers interest and is excited to get it finalised as quickly as possible. He’s even been on the phone to his old mate Gareth McAuley asking if the spare room is ready!
“But there are some serious numbers to discuss before an agreement can be reached.”
While talks continue Gerrard will be keeping all options open – with Scotland ace Kevin McDonald one name on a list of alternatives.
The 30-year-old had been a mainstay in Fulham’s midfield until falling out of the picture after the arrival of new boss Claudio Ranieri.
It’s understood Fulham have made it clear they will not be difficult to deal with if McDonald wishes to leave the club next month either on loan or a more permanent deal.
