CELTS IN MOVE FOR BURKE

- BY CRAIG SWAN & KEITH JACKSON

CELTIC are weighing up a move for Scotland winger Oliver Burke.

And he could team up with Timothy Weah who has agreed to join the Hoops on loan until the end of the season.

The wounded champions are racing to deliver Brendan Rodgers’s Christmas wishlist and are also poised to make a quick move for £2million-rated Ivorian frontman Vakoun Issouf Bayo.

He is being closely monitored along with Burke, 21, who cost West Brom £15m from RB Leipzig last year but has made just three league appearances for the Championship side this season and will be loaned out in January. Celtic are

among the clubs monitoring his situation and it’s understood the midfielder is aware of interest from Parkhead. But he has a host of other options with Millwall heading a list of English clubs keen on his services.

Weah, meanwhile, will bolster Rodgers’s frontline after agreeing a switch.

Record Sport understands the 18-year-old – who was at Lennoxtown last week for a VIP tour – hopes to be back in Glasgow this week to pen a deal but must wait for his PSG bosses to give the green light.

And while Weah waits to be given the nod we can reveal fellow hitkid Bayo features prominently on a list of targets drawn up by Rodgers and head of recruitment Lee Congerton.

Bayo is a 21-year-old striker who has netted 14 goals in 25 league appearances for Dunajska Streda in the Slovakian top flight.

A club source said: “Weah is now close to being finalised as he has made it clear to Brendan he wants to come to Celtic. It’s just a matter of PSG giving it their blessing.

“Bayo is an exciting prospect. No bid has been made but he’s someone we’re interested in.”

Rodgers is desperate to strengthen for the second half of the campaign and Europa League last-32 rivals Valencia are also eyeing new recruits.

The La Liga side are trying to sign West Ham striker Javier Hernandez on loan.

The Mexican would be eligible to face the Hoops and there would be a £7million clause in place to make the loan move permanent in June.
