Shaun leaves a legacy of love
THE anniversary of Shaun Woodburn’s death comes as the country brings in the New Year.
It’s a poignant and difficult time for Shaun’s family and friends.
But they have not allowed his tragic killing to be without a positive legacy.
The Woodburns are marking the second year since his death by setting up a memorial fund for disadvantaged youngsters.
It will bring benefits to people across his home city of Edinburgh and the wider Lothian region.
Shaun’s love of football inspired his family to put a particular focus on sport and recreation.
In time, the memorial fund will become an established charity, run by a board of trustees, all for the benefit of others.
It’s such a fitting move for a family who have done so much for victims of crime since Shaun was killed in the early hours of New Year’s Day 2017.
Thanks to their efforts, post-mortem rules have been changed so victims don’t have to deal with multiple and unnecessary procedures.
And a national campaign to improve sentencing guidelines for culpable homicide and murder is gathering pace.
We can all help Shaun’s family continue to make a difference by digging deep and by helping to keep pressure on the Government.
His name won’t be forgotten – and his death won’t have been for nothing.
