RYAN BACKS WARRIORS TO RECOVER

- BY DAVID KELSO

RYAN WILSON has hit back at the critics writing Glasgow off after their double derby defeats.

And the co-captain believes the Warriors will recover from back-to-back losses to Edinburgh by returning to the Pro14 title trail against Treviso in Italy this weekend.

Scotland back-row star Wilson said: “It was very disappointing to lose at home, especially to our closest rivals. But we will head off to Italy with a positive mindset and we know we must turn things round quickly.

“It only takes one match and one win to re-establish momentum. And when that happens the negatives will be forgotten about.

“Treviso will be a massive test, especially on their own turf. They’ve taken some big scalps over the past couple of campaigns so they will be thinking they can take some points.”

Wilson admitted the performance in the scrums and lineouts were the Warriors’ downfall against the resurgent Gunners.

He added: “We’ve got to be much better there – we will fix it. The effort was there, just a few small things didn’t go our way. Someone mentioned that the last time we lost the 1872 Cup at Scotsoun was also the year we went on to win the league.

“It’s a long old season with a lot of rugby still to be played and we will keep plugging away.”

Edinburgh coach Richard Cockerill can’t wait to send his players back into action in pursuit of a fifth win on the trot.

They face Southern Kings at Murrayfield and Cockerill said: “At the start of December we looked at the four games against Newcastle and Glasgow as hugely important.

“We managed to win them all, which is great. We have set up a chance to progress in Europe and strongly challenge for a play-off place in the league.

“Now we have to make sure we get something out of them in the latter stages of each campaign.”
