BOYD: BOARD MUST SPEND

-

KRIS BOYD reckons Rangers have come up short in recruitment and insists they need to make a splash in January.

But he warned his old club he’s backing Kilmarnock to shock everyone and lift the title.

The outspoken pundit believes Steven Gerrard must do all he can to bring former Ibrox favourite Steven Davis back to the Light Blues.

But despite the Killie striker’s assertions, Gers are on level pegging at the Premiership summit with rivals Celtic after their 1-0 win on Saturday and are buoyant heading into the winter break.

Boyd, 36, also believes the Hoops faithful will be “disillusioned” after a summer of discontent and reckons they will make an impact in the window.

He said: “Rangers need reinforcements in and it’s been well documented that Davis has been linked. I’d like to see that deal done.

“Rangers’ recruitment has not been great and a number haven’t lived up to their price tags. Celtic didn’t spend much in the summer so January will be key.

“A lot of Celtic fans are getting disillusioned because they’re not spending. The last time Celtic lost to Rangers they went and got Brendan Rodgers and spent a lot. It’s a big window for both.”

But despite being unable to match whatever the Old Firm do in the transfer market, Boyd is still backing his Rugby Park side to win the Premiership.

He said: “We think we can go all the way, we’ve shown that over the calendar year, it’s no fluke.

“Since the manager came in we’ve picked up more points than any other team in the league so we know that on our day if we play to our best we can cause teams problems.

“Its going to be difficult to challenge Rangers and Celtic but if we can get in the mix with Aberdeen, hopefully we stay there.”
