Terror cop raid on knife attack suspect’s home

COUNTER-TERROR police raided a Somalian family’s home after a man launched a frenzied New Year’s Eve knife attack at a train station.

A 25-year-old man armed with two kitchen blades stabbed a man, a woman and a British Transport Police officer at about 9pm. Moments after being arrested by four officers, he shouted: “Long live the Caliphate.”

The attack, which police believe was carried out by a “lone wolf ”, took place at Victoria station just yards from the scene of the Manchester Arena bomb blast, where 22 people died in 2017.

Yesterday police, who are treating it as a terror-related incident, searched the house where the suspect lived.

Neighbours said the family initially settled in Holland from Somalia and arrived in the UK about 10 years ago.

The parents live with three of their four sons and a daughter in a semidetach­ed house in Cheetham Hill, just a mile from Victoria station.

Their eldest son, who has not been detained, is said by residents to be a security worker at the city’s airport.

Another son, a teenager, is thought to have returned to Somalia after allegedly being excluded from school following an incident involving a knife.
