Early Spurs blitz revives title bid but Poch is not looking at table

-

HARRY KANE made it a clean sweep against topflight defences as Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino vowed to blank the table.

The 25-year-old bundled home inside three minutes to mean the striker has now scored against all 28 teams he’s faced in the Premier League.

Three minutes – that is all it took for Kane and Spurs to show they remain a serious force in the title race.

A Wembley loss to Wolves prompted claims their title bid could be coming down with the Christmas decorations.

Cue a triple goal blitz by the 26th minute that silenced the noisy locals and outspoken Cardiff boss Neil Warnock on top of sending Spurs back up to second in the standings.

Pochettino said: “First it is about the three points then I don’t want to see the table.

“Of course we are in a very good position but we have to be consistent.

“Today the Premier League is so tough – if you want to be in a good position you must be consistent for the whole season. And you can’t afford to lose the three points like we did against Wolves.”

While Poch claimed a goal glut proved their Wanderers woe was “just an accident”, the means by which Kane hit his milestone was anything but deliberate.

Sean Morrison’s attempt to clear a Kieran Trippier cross ricocheted off the England skipper’s knee and squirmed into the corner.

The Bluebirds had been the only Premier League club he had never scored against.

And Pochettino said: “That was important for him and for us because it set us on our way and was also special for him.

“I’m so pleased for the players after the Wolves result. It wasn’t a problem of us being tired – it was concentration.

“But the players showed massive energy today and that was the team I expect to see.” Not only are regular stars coming good with Kane now on 18 goals for the campaign.

Even once-maligned squad men like Moussa Sissoko are stepping up, his runs and passes contributing to two goals.

Spurs’ second was much silkier after Christian Eriksen picked the ball up at the edge of the box 12 minutes in.
