FEET FIRST

Cold Feet star Hermione signed up for the cult series 22 years ago .. and she’s always happy to get the gang back together

-

WITH her geometric bob and dangerous cheekbones, Hermione Norris is regularly cast as a terrifying or ruthless character.

Twisted psychiatrist Dr Vivienne Lake, who features in the new BBC One series of Luther is one of her nastiest pieces of work yet.

Hermione will be back on our screens in a more familiar form later in the month as ITV’s Cold Feet returns for series eight. Her character, publisher Karen Marsden, has survived alcoholism, an affair with a colleague, a torrid divorce and is back to fight another day.

Hermione always enjoys getting the old pals back together. She told Good Housekeeping magazine: “It’s always nice when we’re together as a group – that dynamic of being with the gang.

“Cold Feet’s success is a measure of where people who have loved it have been in their own lives. They go on a journey with us. When they’re watching BY ANNA BURNSIDE reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk us, they’re remembering where they were when the show started 22 years ago.”

At the time, it was a rare glimpse of the lives of people in their 30s. The show’s stars – James Nesbitt, Jon Thompson, Fay Ripley – are now in their 50s. Their kids are growing up and plots reflect the stage they’re at in life.

Ripley’s character, Jenny, is diagnosed with breast cancer in episode one and writer Mike Bullen has upsets in store for all the characters.

Hermione is used to it by now, saying: “I signed up for this series 22 years ago. Mike Bullen is my puppeteer.” Her character may be in the wars but Hermione finds life her sixth decade sweet. ●The full interview appears in the February issue of Good Housekeeping, on sale today.
