Single ticket claims New Year payout

-

BY JEMMA CREW reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk A LOTTERY player in the UK has come forward to claim the £115million EuroMillions jackpot won on New Year’s Day, Camelot confirmed yesterday.

One ticket holder scooped the £114,969,775 jackpot, making them Britain’s fourth biggest lottery winner.

A further 10 players pocketed £1million each in the January 1 draw.

Camelot said the jackpot prize money will be paid when the winning ticket is validated.

The winner will then choose if they want to reveal themselves publicly.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ adviser at The National Lottery, said: “Imagine kicking off the New Year with an extra £114million to your name.

“What an amazing win and year ahead for one lucky UK ticket-holder.

“We look forward to helping them begin to enjoy their win.”

The winning EuroMillions numbers were 1, 8, 11, 25 and 28. The Lucky Stars were 4 and 6.

The New Year’s Day win follows a series of high-profile lottery prizes.

In July 2011, Colin and Chris Weir, from Largs in Ayrshire, became the biggest lottery winners in Europe when they scooped more than £161million.

Adrian and Gillian Bayford, from Suffolk, won £148million in 2012, while the biggest prize awarded last year was £121million, handed to an anonymous winner in April.

In November, builder Andrew Clark, from Boston, Lincolnshire, discovered he had won £76million, six weeks after the draw.

He stockpiled tickets in his van and checked them only every three months.
