Alice and Luther

-

THIS pair are completely captivating together. They have a complex, twisted – and simply plain weird – relationship that’s difficult to figure out.

They appear to respect, love, lust and hate each other in equal measure.

Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) clearly adores Luther – in her rather odd/slightly murderous way.

But she’s not entirely the coldhearted killer she seems with those skewers.

The soulsearching she does on her couch could show she’s fearful that the emotions Luther evokes in her could weaken her guard.

Luther is drawn to her like a moth to a flame but, being a good guy at heart, he loathes himself for it.

As they keep telling us, people are his weakness – and she brings out the worst in him. Last night, it seemed he was almost going to admit that he loved her when he couldn’t bring himself to hand her over to mobster George. When she asks, “Why?”, he mutters: “You know why not”. Yet it seems that the only way for Luther to save himself will be to hand Alice over to the gangster whose son she has killed – and even then, Luther staying alive seems unlikely. Can he bring himself to do it? And what lengths will she go to to stop him? As the credits rolled, we saw Alice shooting at Luther and missing – but does she take a second shot? We know how far she’ll go to save her own life – or take revenge. But will her love for Luther save him? And vice versa?
