Only Fools flats in £1bn development

BY KELLY ALLEN THEY spent their lives trying to make a quick buck, so Del Boy and Rodney would surely be angling for a cut as their block of flats is flogged for a lovely jubbly £1billion.

The high rise where Only Fools And Horses was filmed is to be demolished to make way for 5000 luxury apartments.

Harlech Tower was used to portray the outside of the fictional Nelson Mandela House, where the Trotters lived, in the long-running BBC sitcom.

The building is in Acton, West London, although the show was set in Peckham, South East London.

Harlech was used for exterior scenes in the opening titles, and featured in the show from 1981-85. Filming was later switched to Bristol.

The block was last seen in the episode To Hull And Back, aired in 1985. It was also used in the 2010 Only Fools prequel, Rock & Chips.

When the new flats are finished in the mid-2020s, the block is likely to be worth about £1billion.

Sir David Jason, 78, Nicholas Lyndhurst, 57, and the late Lennard Pearce played Derek, Rodney and Grandad in the award-winning show, which ran from 1981-2003.

The beloved characters are set to make a comeback in a new musical version of the sitcom. Written by actor Paul Whitehouse and Jim Sullivan, son of Only Fools creator, the late John Sullivan, it opens in London next month.
