Wallace: I’ll Master my bid for next Ryder Cup

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

MATT WALLACE was so determined to make the next Ryder Cup team he missed the final putt in Paris to head to the practice range.

Now the Londoner, who is in a hurry to reach the top after three wins in 2018, is already getting ready for his Masters debut in April.

The world No.44 will tee up in Augusta after finishing the year in the top 50 for the first time and will be eligible to play all the Majors and the WGCs.

Wallace said: “I played my last two events of the year in South Africa and gave my caddie Dave McNeilly a couple of weeks off and had Glen Murray on my bag.

“He is Sergio Garcia’s old caddie and I would have been stupid not to ask him about the Masters because he has won it.”

Inexperience cost Belfrybased Wallace a late wildcard pick for Paris.

But he added: “I watched Francesco finish his match to secure the Ryder Cup for Team Europe but I missed Alex Noren’s putt on the last because I went to the range.

“I wanted to be there so badly I’m using that now as a drive to be there next time.

“Being so close I thought I did everything in my power to give myself the best opportunity.

“But credit to Thomas Bjorn for picking the guys he did because they went and wiped the floor with the Americans. I’ll have to get an automatic place next time.”
