WITH 57 England caps and 20 goals, Jermain Defoe is one of the highest-profile signings in Scottish football. Here’s the lowdown on his career so far:

2000: First-team debut for West Ham at 17 then loaned to Bournemouth, scoring in 10 successive games to equal club record.

02: Finished the season as West Ham’s top scorer with 14 goals despite being used mainly as a sub. Hammers ended up seventh in top flight but were relegated the following season.

04: Joined Spurs in February for £7million and made a quick impact, scoring seven in 15 matches in the run-in.

Another 22 in 44 games the following season earned him club’s Player of the Year prize.

06: Scored 50th Spurs goal and made his first start for England, scoring in victory over Poland. But goal didn’t win him World Cup call-up.

08: Signed for Portsmouth in January for £7.5m but couldn’t play a part in FA Cup win as he was cup-tied.

09: Back to Spurs 12 months later for almost £16m and hit three hat-tricks.

10: A landmark strike against West Brom was his 100th Premier League goal, his 100th as a Spurs player and the 1000th goal scored by the club in the Premier League era. Earned place in World Cup squad, scoring in 1-0 win against Slovenia that secured their place in knockout stages.

13: Became Spurs’ highest European scorer with his 23rd strike.

14: Lured to FC Toronto in March but failed to settle, lasting only nine months.

15: Moved to Sunderland and helped save club from top-flight relegation.

17: Joined Bournemouth again but netted just four times in 28 appearances.

19: Secured a move to Rangers and will join up with Steven Gerrard’s squad on winter-break training camp in Tenerife.
