Another 22 in 44 games the following season earned him club’s Player of the Year prize.
Scored 50th Spurs goal and made his first start for England, scoring in victory over Poland. But goal didn’t win him World Cup call-up.
Signed for Portsmouth in January for £7.5m but couldn’t play a part in FA Cup win as he was cup-tied.
Back to Spurs 12 months later for almost £16m and hit three hat-tricks.
A landmark strike against West Brom was his 100th Premier League goal, his 100th as a Spurs player and the 1000th goal scored by the club in the Premier League era. Earned place in World Cup squad, scoring in 1-0 win against Slovenia that secured their place in knockout stages.
Became Spurs’ highest European scorer with his 23rd strike.
Lured to FC Toronto in March but failed to settle, lasting only nine months.
Moved to Sunderland and helped save club from top-flight relegation.
Joined Bournemouth again but netted just four times in 28 appearances.
Secured a move to Rangers and will join up with Steven Gerrard’s squad on winter-break training camp in Tenerife.
