BY MICHAEL GANNON the league. If we get the quality players in we want then we have a good chance of getting out of this league.

“We have good players here but we need to improve the squad as well. We need the quality that will give us the final ball to score the goals that will get us up. This is the big push.”

Neilson added former Celtic youngster Aiden Nesbitt last week but admits the winter window can be frustrating.

The Tannadice gaffer remained tight-lipped on Sow and Smith but said: “January is tough and you’re never happy until they are in the building.

“We are working really hard to bring in the targets we want. The problem we have is there has not been much movement higher up.

“We want to bring in good players from a higher level but they are not as keen to let players go in case they get caught short. But we will get things moving soon.”

Neilson is looking forward to meeting Ogren face to face but claims he’s not bothered about dealing with an absentee landlord.

The American has placed son Scott on the board and will appoint agent Tony Asgar as director of football, with a managing director role also to be filled.

Neilson said: “It’s the modern game. Long gone are the days when the owner is the local butcher made good.

“It’s a business now. Years ago it was someone putting money in for the fun of it because they were fans.

“These days the bigger clubs are businesses and the ones investing have successful businesses elsewhere.

“The club is something they get enjoyment from.

“Things are progressing behind the scenes.

“We expect the owners to come over this month, possibly even this weekend, which would be great. “They have a long-term strategy for the club but they understand the short term is what everyone looks at. “They are looking at both aspects. It’s good for everyone if you are winning, whether the owners are there or not. But it’d be good for them to see the result we want and see us pushing up the league.”
