Our Gold couple can get us title

CONNOR GOLDSON reckons Jermain Defoe and Steve Davis will have the bottle for a title race.

And he insists Rangers deserve to have big names like the new star duo.

Goldson has teamed up with the two new Light Blues signings at the club’s winter training camp in Tenerife and believes their bags of experience will be crucial in the second half of the season.

Davis won eight honours in his first Ibrox spell and Defoe has a League Cup winners’ medal with Spurs as well as playing at major tournaments with England.

And Goldson said: “The new signings gives us a lift and brings people who have been at the highest level and done it.

“They aren’t going to get afraid if we are up there in a title race.

“We deserve to attract those kind of players because the club is huge.

“You don’t understand it when you are in England but this club deserves to have the best available players to help them try and win things because it has been a long time since we have.”

Goldson knows Defoe from his time in England and said: “Defoe has played at the highest level possible.

“He scored against Brighton last season when I was on the bench and I remember watching.

“You have seen him over the years doing it on many occasions. He is a natural goalscorer. Hopefully he can come here and do the same.

“With Davis, the main thing is knowing how to play at this club. He is someone who understands what Rangers means to the fans.”
