Rangers in bid to sign Bryson

- BY GORDON PARKS

RANGERS have launched a bid to sign Craig Bryson from Derby. The Ibrox club have targeted the Rams midfielder as part of their January recruitment drive and negotiations are ongoing to try to land the 32-year-old for free this month. Record Sport understands Ibrox assistant boss Gary McAllister has convinced Steven Gerrard to make a move for the Scotland ace who’s out of contract this summer.

Bryson spent most of last season on loan at Cardiff, helping the Bluebirds win promotion to the Premier League, but

has been brought back into the fold this season under new manager Frank Lampard.

It’s understood Derby chairman Mel Morris is keen to trim the wage bill at the Championship club and the team’s longestserving player has yet to be offered a new deal at Pride Park.

Talks are now taking place to try to thrash out a financial agreement that would allow the player to make the switch during this transfer widow and bolster the midfield options at Gers alongside Steven Davis, Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield.

Bryson has made 263 appearances for the Rams since signing from Kilmarnock for £350,000 in the summer of 2011.

But despite being voted Player of the Year by the fans on two occasions, he recently admitted his days at Derby could be numbered.

He said: “I’ve got six months left of my deal. If they don’t come to me with anything then it’s time to move on.

“As it stands, that’s something that could happen now.”
