Buddies close on Lyons and target Morgan
ST MIRREN will look to conclude the loan signing of Blackburn midfielder Brad Lyons today – and haven’t given up on bringing Lewis Morgan back.
Lyons, who played under manager Oran Kearney at Coleraine, made his move to Rovers a permanent one last week, paving the way for the 21-year-old to now sign on with Saints for the rest of the season.
The Northern Irishman will become Kearney’s fourth signing of the window and could yet be joined by Tomas Malec, the 6ft 6in Slovak striker who scored two goals in a bounce game against a young Celtic side on Friday.
Lyons also played in that match, as did new recruits Czech keeper Vaclav Hladky, Romanian centre half Mihai Popescu, and former Aberdeen midfielder Greg Tansey, as Kearney continues to rebuild his squad ahead of Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie at home to Alloa.
The Paisley club are also keen to bring Morgan back on loan for the rest of the season.
Hibs manager Neil Lennon has already expressed his interest in adding the Celtic winger to his squad while Aberdeen and Kilmarnock are also thought to be monitoring developments.
St Mirren would also like to re-sign the player, who came through their youth ranks before signing for the Hoops last January and then spending the rest of the season on loan to help Jack Ross’ side win the Championship title.
Morgan has appeared fleetingly for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers believes he’d benefit from playing elsewhere for a few months.
