Murray: I’d never walk out on Scotland

-

HIBS captain Joelle Murray insists there’s no way she would refuse to play for her country.

The stopper hopes to line up for Scotland against Norway in La Manga tomorrow night but won’t be marking ace Ada Hegerberg.

The 23-year-old Norwegian, who plays for Champions League holders Lyon, walked out on her country after Euro 2017.

Hegerberg has never explained why she quit the international team but indicated at the Ballon BY ALAN CAMPBELL d’Or – where she won the top award – that she has no intention of playing in this summer’s World Cup in France.

That’s left Murray baffled with the 45-time capped defender relishing every single call-up.

She said: “It’s something I would never, ever think about doing.

“I can only speak for myself, and I don’t know her reasons, but a World Cup is something you may never experience again. A player of her ability will be badly missed by Norway. Every cap is special.”

Murray is itching to pull on a Scotland top again after injuries denied her any international playing time last year.

The 32-year-old said: “I’ve been accumulating caps at a slow rate. I’d like to get to 50 this year.

“We’re coming off a great year and want to start on the front foot against Norway on Thursday and Iceland on Monday.”
