PIERRE VAN HOOIJDONK reckons “crazy” Alfredo Morelos would hate to see the introduction of VAR in Scotland.

The Rangers striker escaped punishment for three incidents in last month’s derby win.

Former Celtic hero Van Hooijdonk is a fan of the Colombian and said: “He’s a handful and a bit crazy but he’s scored a lot of goals and he’s terrible to play against – one of these guys who would hate VAR to come in!”

● Van Hooijdonk was promoting Premier Sports’ Scottish Cup action with Cowdenbeath v Rangers live on Friday (7.45pm) and Celtic’s tie with Airdrie on Saturday (5.15pm). Toure sparked talk of joining Celts when he refused to rule out a deal when a guest on Sky Sports on Monday night. He said: “Celtic are a great team but I will speak to Brendan Rodgers there and we will see what happens.” But sources at the club confirmed no deal for the midfielder is in the pipeline as Rodgers is chasing targets in other positions. The former Barcelona star is a free agent after his spell back at first club Olympiakos was cut short after just four appearances with clubs in France, England, the MLS and China all keen. And the Hoops boss is still on the trail of Toure’s former Olympiakos team-mate Omar Elabdellaoui but the Greeks are determined to keep hold of the right-back and want double the £4m Celts would be willing to pay. Record Sport also understands there has been no new bid for Aberdeen centre-back Scott McKenna. The Parkhead club had a £3.5m bid for the Scotland star rejected in the summer, with Dons believing they could land up to £10m. Aston Villa are in the hunt and Celtic are keeping tabs but won’t splash out for him in January. Aberdeen are adamant they will only do business in this window if they can agree a loan back arrangement for the remainder of the campaign. Meanwhile, Celtic face missing Tom Rogic for more games after he fired Australia in to the knockout stages of the Asian Cup. The 26-year-old, who played with a broken bone in his hand, fired home an injury-time stunner to sink Syria 3-2. The Asian Cup runs until February 1, ruling Rogic out of the Scottish Cup clash with Airdrie, league games against St Mirren, Hamilton and a double header with St Johnstone. The visit of Hibs on February 6 is a likely date of return.
