Gers want cash if Joe is recalled

-

Midlands outfit will have to stump up cash to take him back as part of the seasonlong agreement signed in the summer.

O’Neill was yesterday named as Aitor Karanka’s successor at the club where he won two European Cups as a player and the Northern Irishman has walked into a defensive crisis at the Championship side.

Caretaker boss Simon Ireland was forced to play midfielder Claudio Yacob as a centre-back in the 2-0 defeat to Reading where central defender and ex-Celt Danny Fox saw red to make matters worse.

That could force O’Neill into attempting to cut 22-year-old Worrall’s time at Rangers short as he tries to lead Forest into a play-off place at a time when he’s emerging as a key player for Steven Gerrard’s side.

The England Under-21 stopper has featured 17 times for Gers and was instrumental in last month’s Old Firm win.

It’s understood he has no desire to return and is desperate to help Gerrard push for the league title.

Former Light Blues captain Terry Butcher said: “Will Martin deprive Rangers and bring back Worrall? If he was being Machiavellian ... they do have an injury crisis.”

O’Neill’s former Reds team-mate Garry Birtles said: “I’m not surprised Joe’s done so well. There’s a possibility he could be brought back down.”

Meanwhile, there is no deal to let Glen Kamara leave Dundee this window to join Rangers.

The Ibrox side are keen on getting their pre-contract signing in this month by agreeing to a player swap.

But Dee wanted Ross McCrorie in exchange for Kamara with that offer knocked back by Gers.
