Premiership gaffers and refs set for SFA summit

- BY GORDON PARKS

SFA chief Ian Maxwell will attempt to broker peace in Perth tonight at a summit between Premiership bosses and top-flight refs.

The Hampden bigwig has invited all leading managers to a meeting at McDiarmid Park for calm conversations after recent high-profile controversies engulfed Scottish football.

We understand Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard along with Hearts

boss Craig Levein, who recently copped a twomatch ban for outspoken criticism of ref Bobby Madden, will attend.

It’s believed only two top-flight gaffers will not be present for a no-holdsbarred discussion with a host of leading figures in the referees department and new SFA compliance officer Clare Whyte.

Maxwell will chair the meeting which is designed to clear the air by trying to find common ground over a number of grievances.

The gathering follows on from a refs’ summit held in Edinburgh earlier this week.

That centred on the vile threats made to John Beaton after last month’s Old Firm clash which also saw Celtic release a statement after it was decided that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos would face no retrospective action from the match.

Rangers also released their own letter of discontent to the SFA after Willie Collum’s controversial dismissal of Daniel Candeias against St Mirren earlier this season.
