Hitting the threeway

AMAZON PRIME WHOEVER could have imagined that three middle-aged men talking endlessly about cars would still be such a big hit?
And yet here we are. Ditched from the BBC and happily settled in their new home at Amazon, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May can still pull in the ratings.
Episodes will be released weekly in more than 200 countries and territories across the globe.
And with a huge budget, there’s no shortage of action or worldwide travel to keep things entertaining. For this third series, the trio have travelled through tricky terrains in Colombia, Mongolia, China, Detroit and… Stansted Airport, while their giant studio tent remains back home in ‘Jeremy’s garden’ in the Cotswolds.
In a tease montage of what to expect over the series, we see everything from exploding helicopters and cars screeching around race tracks, to Jeremy dressed as a French policeman and an inquisitive bear.
Mostly of course, this is boys with toys, all banter, rivalry and idiocy – and it’s thoroughly entertaining. In the first episode, the gang make a pilgrimage to Detroit to drive three highly tuned muscle cars and are horrified to find that the oncegreat motor city is a shadow of its former self.
They decide to stage a drag race on the deserted streets and perform a noise test in an old theatre.
Later on there’s a battle between good and evil at a local airfield.
Noisy, fun and stupid, this is another lap of honour for the petrol heads.
