Fraud scheme stops £5.4m in bank scams

AN ANTI-FRAUD scheme led by police and the banking sector prevented scams worth £5.4million last year.

Under the system, bank staff are trained to spot when a customer is potentially about to fall victim to a con – often when they request to withdraw large sums. They then alert police.

Nineteen arrests were made through the Banking Protocol in 2018.
