Firefighters rescue 3500 in one year
FIREFIGHTERS rescued 3500 people in Scotland in a year but most of their heroics don’t involve fires.
Figures published by the Fire Brigades Union show Scottish firefighters rescued 68 people a week, between April 2017 and March 2018.
And seven times more were saved from non-fire incidents – with only 500 cases involving blazes.
Chris McGlone, FBU Scotland Executive Council member, said: “Firefighters are rescuing more people year on year and while we welcome recent funding which has enabled the service to increase recruitment, firefighter jobs in Scotland have still been cut.”
