Stars who are shining bright as ever after landmark birthday

-

LIFE USED to begin at 40.

But as Jennifer Aniston’s starstudded birthday party showed this week, it’s all about the big five oh.

Jen marked her big day with a glitzy party with pals Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson and Courtney Cox posing for pics that look more like a friend’s 21st than a 50th.

Aniston isn’t the only star looking great as she hits the half decade – here are just some of the Hollywood star women looking fab at fifty. JENNIFER LOPEZ Jenny from the block started out as a TV dancer and then burst on to the screen in the mid 90s. She hit the heights as a federal marshall in Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight in 1998.

But she switched to music a year later and enjoyed worldwide success with debut record On the 6. She enjoyed a string of hits and has balanced films and music ever since.

She suffered from the fallout of her disastrous film Gigli with then-boyfriend Ben Affleck and her career faltered on all fronts as the public love affair dubbed “Beniffer” went sour quickly. Recent years have seen her bounce back to the top with music and TV work, including American Idol and tough drama Shades of Blue. CATE BLANCHETT One of the most versatile actresses in Hollywood, the Australian flits between blockbuster delights like Lord of the Rings and Thor: Ragnarok to indies and worthy dramas with consummate ease.

She has two Oscars and three Baftas and her biggest hits include The Aviator, Elizabeth, Carol and Ocean’s 8. She also wowed as a presenter at this week’s Baftas.

Her skin and her

classic style have seen her advertise beauty products and fashion for labels like Armani. TESS DALY Stockport-born Tess got into media work through modelling after being scouted on the street in Manchester. She soon began an international career working in fashion. She moved into music videos in the 90s, including Duran Duran singles Serious and Violence of Summer, as well as the mostly nude Sweet Harmony by The Beloved in 1993. In 2000, she got a gig on Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast, hosting the Make me a Model segment. The presenting gigs began flooding in and she hosted series like Singled Out, SMTV Live, Back To Reality and Make Me a Supermodel. But it’s as the co-host of Strictly Come Dancing that Daly became a household name. Married to Vernon Kay for almost 15 years, she is a mum to two daughters. RENEE ZELLWEGER Zellweger has been an A-lister since her breakthrough as the hard-working single mum in Cameron Crowe’s smash Jerry Maguire. She entered icon status for her work in the Bridget Jones films. She won a Best Actress Oscar in 2003 for Cold Mountain. Following a six-year break from acting, she has returned and is set to play Judy Garland in a high-profile biopic. CATHERINE ZETA JONES In 1991, Britain tuned in to ITV drama The Darling Buds of May and Welsh CZJ was an instant stand-out.

She was snapped up quickly, appearing in UK films such as Blue Juice and Splitting Heirs. In the US, she appeared in comicbook thriller The Phantom.

Her Hollywood break came in The Mask of Zorro and she followed that up with a star turn alongside Sean Connery in Entrapment.

She met Michael Douglas on the set of Traffic, marrying in 2000.

After years out, she roared back on to screen last year as Olivia de Havilland in hit mini series Feud. CHRISTY TURLINGTON New Yorker Christy was one of the very elite supermodels in the early 90s – and was immortalised in the classic George Michael video Freedom 90. She has become a vocal campaigner for women’s issues.
