TRACK THE ACCENT

-

EDITH Bowman has teamed up with LNER trains to launch an audio recording that celebrates regional accents.

It follows a survey that found 72 per cent of people were unable to tell the difference between accents from Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, BY JASMINE CAMERON-CHILESHE while 28 per cent couldn’t identify accents from Newcastle and Sunderland.

The audio track, written and directed by poet Ben Norris, features accents and dialects from more than 20 towns and cities along the route and includes the voices of LNER’s staff, local schoolchildren and residents.

Broadcaster Edith, who was born and raised in Anstruther in Fife, said: “I am very passionate about preserving not just my own accent but all the unique accents we have in Great Britain.”
