WE CAN WINTHIS

OGS reckons United can party like it’s 1999

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER sees no reason why he can’t snap up another Champions League winner’s medal at Man United – this term.

The caretaker boss leads them in Europe’s toughest competition for the first time tonight as a PSG side without crocked duo Neymar and Edinson Cavani come calling in their last-16 first-leg tie.

Solskjaer famously scored an injury-time winner against Bayern Munich in 1999 as United clinched a memorable Treble.

Now the Norwegian believes the squad he’s in charge of has the quality and depth to beat any team and potentially go all the way this season.

Solskjaer, who has won 10 and drawn one of his 11 games since replacing Jose Mourinho, said: “This squad is very capable of winning against any opponents.

“When we go into games confident as we are, we’re looking forward – but we can’t look too far ahead.

“We have to look to PSG and make sure we go through this one then take the next challenge as it comes. But I said to the boys, if we keep working every day in training we can improve and maybe surprise a few people.

“I have a big strong squad and that’s been shown. The depth in the squad is very good and we want to play our best football as often as possible.”

Solskjaer has put himself in pole position to land the job on a permanent basis.

Chelsea follow PSG in the FA Cup before Liverpool in the Premier League – a run of three games that will provide the 45year-old with his toughest test.

But Solskjaer claimed it is too early to suggest the job will be his if he can come through those three games with wins.

He said: “That’s too simple. There are still a few months left of this season to do whatever I can for the club.”

Solskjaer watched United land PSG in the draw with his

son before ending up in charge two days later. He said: “I was watching it with Noah and said, ‘Wow, that’s a tough challenge.’

“But we’ve given ourselves the best possible opportunity in the way we’ve gone into it.

“We’ve found out what kind of team we have, the playing style we’ve been talking about, so if there’s any time to go into big games it’s now.

“When you get here you expect to win every single game when you have the players we have and the size of club.

“I’ve loved every single minute of it. We knew we had a big challenge in front of us because we were far behind in the league and confidence was low after the defeat at Liverpool.

“But the players have responded fantastically.

“I don’t think we could be in a better frame of mind and looking forward to the next few games.”
