May calls on SFA to clear Hibs ace Darnell
BY GREIG THOMAS HIBS caretaker boss Eddie May is adamant Darnell Johnson should be cleared of any wrongdoing at tomorrow’s SFA disciplinary hearing.
The Leicester loanee is facing a two-game ban after being charged with an alleged breach of disciplinary rule 200 – serious foul play – over his challenge on Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre.
But May has confirmed the club will contest the charge at Hampden.
Even though he was booked by Craig Thomson, SFA compliance officer Clare Whyte has decided further action is necessary.
Ironically, Johnson sat out the Scottish Cup win over Raith with an injury sustained in the challenge.
May said: “Darnell got injured in the tackle so it will be interesting what the compliance officer comes up with in terms of their findings.
“I thought it was a tackle that was robust and there were a few other ones in the game.”
