I’m stuck in the Middlesbrough

Glen’s gutted his PDC debut won’t feature Boro anthem

- BY CRAIG SWAN

GLEN DURRANT won’t get to walk out to his favoured Middlesbrough anthem this evening.

But the Teessider is still aiming to leave Daryl Gurney feeling sick as a Pig.

Durrant is buzzing for his Unibet Premier League debut having been called up to replace injured Gary Anderson in tonight’s showpiece at Glasgow’s Hydro.

The three-times Lakeside champion has been left stunned at getting the nod for week two having just switched across from the BDC.

Durrant will face the biggest crowd of his life as the takes to the stage in front of 10,000 fans.

The 48-year-old had hoped to enter the cauldron to the sound of Pigbag like his footballing heroes at the Riverside Stadium.

But although he can’t as it’s already Adrian Lewis’s tune it won’t ruin the evening.

He said: “I would have taken Pigbag but I appreciate that’s Adrian’s song. It’s synonymous to Middlesbrough FC and my fans. I’d have loved to walk out to that one last time as it’s going to be the last time I wear the red and white.

“There’s a sort of new brand in the PDC about Glen Durrant, not Middlesbrough football now.

“But it doesn’t matter what it is. This is going to be one of the best moments of my darting career.”

Durrant, who has landed Oasis classic Roll With It, has been swept away since the call-up which came as a shock.

He said: “I was in a meeting and my phone was doing some crazy things. I knew Gary had pulled out of the Premier League and I found out I was in Glasgow. It’s mega. It’s the conclusion of the most amazing month.” With Anderson out of the evening, Peter Wright will carry home hopes as Scotland’s sole representative in the 17-week spectacular. Snakebite can’t wait to get back on to the Glasgow stage and will kick the evening off against Michael Smith. Wright said: “It’s going to be amazing in Glasgow. Michael played really well against Michael van Gerwen last week so I know I’ve got to up my game.

“He’s World Championship runner-up, he’s no mug and it should be a good match. Hopefully the crowd will frighten the life out of him.

“I’m so proud to represent Scotland because there’s no one else in it.

“I missed out on winning the Premier League two years ago by a leg or two so I’ve got to try to make up for that.”
