ROCK ’N’ ROLL STAR

GERRY Cinnamon, the man who made TRNSMT his own last year, is back for the third year running – and festival bosses reckon he’s the biggest sensation since Oasis.

The Glaswegian singersongwriter is second on the bill on Friday, July 12, behind Stormzy, who played the first TRNSMT and headlines Glastonbury in June.

TRNSMT boss Geoff Ellis said: “Gerry is the only guy we would have had play three years in a row.

“If he was at the same level each year it would be samey but his trajectory has been immense.

“We’ve not seen anything like that since the early days of Oasis.

“Gerry is the only person who has come along since then with that kind of trajectory – and of course he’s Scottish.

“He was pretty unknown in 2017, then last year he had become a big artist and wasn’t headlining but was a big main stage act. He was meant to open and went up the bill because we had a gap.

“People want Gerry there. You can see from the survey we did among fans – him and Catfish topped the answers of who people wanted to play this year.

“To not have him this year would have felt wrong. We would have been fools not to.”

Saturday sees Catfish and the Bottlemen top the bill, while Sunday has Snow Patrol and George Ezra co-headlining.

The King Tut’s stage is headlined by Example on Friday, The Hunna on Saturday and Circa Waves on Sunday.

Geoff even admitted Gerry Cinnamon could headline not just one night – but all three.

He said: “Gerry is a new artist, developing his show. He’s big enough to headline TRNSMT but he is happy to play where he is.

“Stormzy has been around longer and is a legend with a fantastic live show. He’s headlining Glastonbury so to get him doing TRNSMT as well is a real coup.”

Day one’s line-up also features Years & Years, AJ Tracey, Fredo, Aminé and Mabel on the main stage and Mist, Mahalia, Jimothy, The Big Moon, Cassia and Kobi Onyame on the King Tut’s powered by Utilita Energy stage.

Saturday, July 13, has Bastille, Richard Ashcroft, DMA’s, Sigrid, Sundara Karma, The Snuts and Sam Fender on the main stage and The Hunna, Steve Mason, Jade Bird, Fontaines D.C., The Dunts and Cavetown playing King Tut’s, Arkells and Skinny Lister.

The closing day of the festival welcomes Jess Glynne, The Kooks, The Wombats, Tom Grennan and The Amazons on the main stage, with Mist, Mahalia, Jimothy, The Big Moon, Cassia and Kobi Onyame for Tut’s.

Snow Patrol make their TRNSMT debut. Frontman Gary Lightbody said: “Glasgow holds a special place in our hearts, having lived and made music in the city for a decade and we can’t wait to play to the TRNSMT crowd.”

It’s a much more British-based line-up than expected, but Geoff insists that’s nothing to do with Brexit – just the strength of talent emerging from the UK right now.

But he admitted festivals and shows post-Brexit could be much more difficult in terms of attracting US acts in particular.

He said: “If the pound falls against the dollar and the Euro, it will be harder to attract big American acts into the UK.

Geoff revealed a special deal on tickets, adding: “We have an offer of £139 for a weekend ticket for those who signed up to the database from the announcement time of 5pm tonight.

“Once that runs out, it is tier 2 pricing – £155 for the weekend.”
