Siobhain McDonagh warned: “It’s the job of Jeremy” to determine what happens next – and whether more Labour MPs jump ship.

Asked if she was thinking about defecting, she said: “I never stop.”

The MP, who has a 21,375 majority in her Mitcham and Morden seat in south London, added: “Is Labour a non-racist party in favour of hard work and aspiration, or isn’t it?”

Labour hit back by unveiling plans for voters to trigger by-elections if any more of their MPs defect.

A senior Labour source said a consultati­on was launched with leadership approval, without being agreed by the Shadow Cabinet.

But Deputy Leader Tom Watson said: “Whatever the merits of the position are, it just looks spiteful.” DEREK Hatton was suspended from Labour last night – two days after it was revealed he was being readmitted following a 34-year ban.

The controvers­ial former deputy leader of Liverpool Council learned of the suspension pending a probe into a 2012 tweet he sent.

The posting, now deleted, included criticism of the Israeli government and urged British Jews to speak out.
