SHELLEY’S TOP SCOTS WILL BE EUROS TARGET

- BY ALAN CAMPBELL

SHELLEY KERR admits Scotland will be the Pot 1 team all the other nations want when the draw for Euro 2021 is made today.

The Scots women hope to seal history by qualifying for a third successive major championship – with the extra carrot the finals are being staged in England.

Scotland are among the nine top seeds for the first time and that alone will hugely boost the chances of making the tournament.

But boss Kerr said: “The draw has almost gone under the radar because of the success of getting to the World Cup.

“It’s fantastic we’re in the first pot but you can rest assured all the teams in Pot 2 will want to draw Scotland – they’ll think we’re the weakest team among the top seeds.

“We raised expectations because of the successes of recent years and before the draw has even taken place our target will be to qualify for the finals.”

Being among top seeds is all the more remarkable given that Euro 2017 was the first time Scotland’s women qualified for a major tournament. That was followed by a first World Cup spot.

All nine group winners will qualify for the finals with three best runners-up also going through.

The other six will face head-to-head play-offs for the remaining places.

Pot 2 has formidable sides including Euro 2017 finalists Denmark while Pot 3 has Portugal, Poland and Republic of Ireland.
