Curdy, 67, denies ‘cruel’ allegations

-

A TEENAGER claims former TV newsreader Bryce Curdy raped her three times when she was 12.

But Curdy told his trial yesterday: “I don’t think I ever gave the girl as much as a hug. “This is cruel and evil.” The 67-year-old, from Ayr, denies raping the girl between April 26 and August 29, 2012, at a house in the south of France.

In his evidence at the High Court in Glasgow, he said the rape allegations only emerged after he sent the mum of the alleged victim a text asking for his £23,000 Rolex watch back, which he claimed BY WILMA RILEY she had stolen. Curdy said he threatened to go to the police.

He added: “She was smirking and saying, ‘I speak fluent French, who are the police going to believe?’”

Curdy added: “Nothing inappropriate happened. This is 100 per cent malicious and malevolent.”

In her police interview, the alleged victim, now 19, said Curdy pushed her on to a kitchen table during the first alleged assault.

She added: “I screamed, ‘What are you doing?’

“He then started to take his clothes off.

“I was only 12 but I knew what he was doing was wrong. I couldn’t do anything to stop him and then I think I blacked out.”

The teenager told the court Curdy whispered to her: “If you tell anyone, I will kill you and your mum.”

She added: “That is what he said to me on the three occasions he raped me.”

The jury was told that the other two alleged rapes took place in a bedroom.

The teenager said: “I was petrified.”

The court heard former STV newsreader Curdy’s last media job was at Saga Radio and he now works as a hypnotherapist.

The trial continues.
