Curtis still wants to be Well’s Main man for goals

-

CURTIS MAIN will never stop grafting to push Motherwell even further up the table.

The frontman has a reputation for creating more than he scores but he’s desperate to hit double figures this season for only the second time in his career.

Motherwell were languishing ninth in the table after a 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock on Boxing Day, 13 points off the top six.

A six-game run of league wins has now taken them to seventh, BY GARY RALSTON just two points off St Johnstone as they head into tomorrow’s game against leaders Celtic.

Main is on six goals and also has his eyes on another prize as he contemplates his future with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.

The 26-year-old, who hit 10 goals for Doncaster five years ago, said: “Double figures is definitely a target. In the past, injuries and a lack of game time have played a part in hampering me from reaching that target.

“Now I’m playing regularly that’s an aim for the end of the season.

“I wouldn’t like to give a specific target because we have a tough schedule in the run-in but in the back of my mind I would like to hit double figures.

“Possibly I have to be more selfish in front of goal. However, the work I do sometimes occupies two or three defenders and that creates gaps and opportunities for other players.

“Ultimately I keep playing because the manager is happy as long as someone is putting the ball in the back of the net.

“From a selfish point of view I would rather be the one scoring, no doubt.

“If I keep my head down and keep working hard I won’t struggle, the goals and chances will continue to come.”
