There’s no respect. Even in the fiercest games you give the ball back, it’s how you are brought up
CELTIC’S FURY AT WELL GOAL Robbo: We need to cut young Scott some slack
you put the ball out of play, you get it back. It probably should’ve happened but James hasn’t realised and we’ve scored from it.
“It didn’t impact on the outcome on the game. I’m sure James realises what might come as a result of it but people have to realise he’s genuinely not meant it and in the grand scheme of things the outcome didn’t depend on it.” BY DAVID McCARTHY STEPHEN ROBINSON insists James Scott deserves to be cut some slack for his moment of madness.
The Motherwell kid refused to give Celtic the ball back after putting it out of play to allow treatment to injured Ryan Christie as the visitors went on score and get back into the game at 2-1 down.
Celtic went on to win 4-1 but Robinson hopes Scott’s actions don’t take away from what he believes was a fine performance from his team.
He said: “Unfortunately the goal will deflect from a terrific performance. That’s the annoying thing for me.
“It was a young boy making his first start in the game, he’s a real prospect for us and he’s made a mistake.
“I don’t know what you do after that. I haven’t got a clue. I have never been in that circumstance before.
“We had a lot of the ball and they didn’t create much against us. It was never a 4-1. The third goal, by the way, was outstanding. And that kills the game.”
Asked what Scott said, Robinson added: “James just got caught up in it. He’s a young boy, living his dream playing football. He’s on flipping £200 a week.
“Jesus, he’s made a mistake. We’ll forgive him for that. He was dumbfounded. He’s taken a lot of stick.
“Celtic didn’t lose the league because of it, they didn’t lose the game.”
Well lost Tom Aldred and Carl McHugh to injury and Robinson had a go at the Celtic support in the standing section who celebrated as McHugh was stretchered off.
He added: “Tom has seven or eight stitches in his head. Carl was knocked out cold. He is concussed.
“I don’t think it was right for a small section of Celtic supporters to cheer when he went off with a stretcher – but a large amount of Celtic supporters applauded, please make a note of that.”
